LES tests on airfoil trailing edge serration

چکیده
In the present study, a large number of acoustic simulations are carried out for a low noise airfoil with different Trailing Edge Serrations (TES). The Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FWH) acoustic analogy is used for noise prediction at trailing edge. The acoustic solver is running on the platform of our in-house incompressible flow solver EllipSys3D. The flow solution is first obtained from the Large Eddy Simulation (LES), the acoustic part is then carried out based on the instantaneous hydrodynamic pressure and velocity field. To obtain the time history data of sound pressure, the flow quantities are integrated around the airfoil surface through the FWH approach. For all the simulations, the chord based Reynolds number is around 1.5x10. In the test matrix, the effects from angle of attack, the TE flap angle, the length/width of the TES are investigated. Even though the airfoil under investigation is already optimized for low noise emission, most numerical simulations and wind tunnel experiments show that the noise level is further decreased by adding the TES device.

An experimental study of airfoil instability tonal noise with trailing edge serrations
This paper presents an experimental study of the effect of trailing edge serrations on airfoil instability noise. Detailed aeroacoustic measurements are presented of the noise radiated by an NACA-0012 airfoil with trailing edge serrations in a low to moderate speed flow under acoustical free field conditions. The existence of a separated boundary layer near the trailing edge of the airfoil at a...
متن کاملNoise model for serrated trailing edges compared to wind tunnel measurements
A new CFD RANS based method to predict the far field sound pressure emitted from an aerofoil with serrated trailing edge has been developed. The model was validated by comparison to measurements conducted in the Virginia Tech Stability Wind Tunnel. The model predicted 3 dB lower sound pressure levels, but the tendencies for the different configurations were predicted correctly. Therefore the mo...
متن کاملUncertainty quantification for the trailing-edge noise of a controlled-diffusion airfoil
Two deterministic incompressible flow solvers are coupled with a non-intrusive stochastic collocation method to propagate several aerodynamic uncertainties encountered in a standard trailing-edge noise experiment of a low-speed Controlled-Diffusion (CD) airfoil to predict the far-field noise. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) are applied to the same restric...
متن کاملLES of the trailing-edge flow and noise of a controlled-diffusion airfoil at high angle of attack
Large-eddy simulations (LES) of flow over a low-speed airfoil at high angle of attack (15◦) are performed using two different flow solvers, Fluent and CDP, on the same fine structured mesh, whose density was previously shown to provide a reasonably accurate trailing-edge flow for noise predictions at a lower incidence of 8◦. These simulations are compared with detailed pressure measurements mad...
متن کاملFlow visualization over a thick blunt trailing-edge airfoil with base cavity at low Reynolds numbers using PIV technique
ABSTRACT In this study, the effect of cutting the end of a thick airfoil and adding a cavity on its flow pattern is studied experimentally using PIV technique. First, by cutting 30% chord length of the Riso airfoil, a thick blunt trialing-edge airfoil is generated. The velocity field around the original airfoil and the new airfoil is measured by PIV technique and compared with each other. Then,...
